This news story is an investigation of the what happened between student groups during the Fall 2007 Princeton Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) when they put up a demonstration likening animal cruelty to slavery. To many students on campus, the visual comparison drawn between animal cruelty and slavery and the Civil Rights movement was seen as offensive, and incited discussions about racial insensitivity, especially within various African American student groups.
